A whopping 68% of British people are dissatisfied with the way Nick Clegg is doing his job, according to the latest poll from Ipsos Mori. This is the worst rating ever recorded for any Liberal Democrat leader.
And it’s not just Clegg’s personal rating that has hit a record low. His apology for backing down from a pre-election promise not to raise university tuition fees has not been enough to prevent popular esteem from draining out of his party. If a General Election were held today, the Lib Dems would get just 9% of the vote.
However, the polling numbers also show a decline in satisfaction for the way the government in general is running the country – and the work of the two other party leaders – since September. For prime minister David Cameron, the dissatisfaction rate is up four points to 62%. Labour leader Ed Miliband scrapes through with the smallest increase in dissatisfaction numbers to 49%, two points higher than last month.
More than two-thirds (67%) of the public are dissatisfied with the Coalition as a whole.
